Sean Dye

Award winning artist Sean Dye is a multimedia artist who received his MFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. He has taught at The University of Vermont since 1991. He conducts workshops throughout North America on Pastel, Oil Painting and Mixed-Media. His paintings have been exhibited widely and are in numerous private and corporate collections. They have appeared in The Artists Magazine and International Artist Magazine, Pastel Artist International and The Pastel Journal. He has been the judge or juror many exhibitions throughout North America.

He is a member of the Pastel Society of America, The Degas Pastel Society and the Sierra Pastel Society. He is the Former President and founder of the Vermont Pastel Society.

Easy Steps
to Oil Painting

In Sean Dye’s newest DVD “Easy Steps to Oil Painting”, popular artist and workshopper Dye takes his viewer through all the steps required to begin painting in oil.
“This DVD is for all the people who have wanted to get into oils”, Dye says, “But were afraid of it. My approach is based on certain steps that you follow and if you follow them it is very likely that you will come up with a decent painting.”
Over the course of the two-hour, 14 chapter lesson, Dye introduces his personal color palette that is suitable for any subject matter and his time-tested oil technique that works equally well for landscapes, cityscapes and even portraiture. He then presents color and layout and organization of lights and darks, before beginning his painting on Gesso Bord, which Dye uses because of its consistency and its ability to fit into almost any frame.
The actual subject matter in this oil painting lesson is a river scene in summer. In addition to the lesson itself, the DVD also features an informative section about Sean and a look at paintings in his gallery.
